Cordierite support discs provide a shaped interface for locating or separating parts within an assembly. The key design question is where the disc carries load and where it must leave clearance. Show these areas on the drawing so a support feature is not mistaken for a sliding or free-clearance feature.

Specify the support and retention features

Include the outside profile, thickness, bore and any grooves, notches or holes. If the disc supports wire, tube or another component, show its cross-section and the required seating position. State whether the disc is held by a shaft, a housing shoulder, fasteners or an external fixture.

Check interfaces as a set

• Identify contact faces and the direction of load.
• Show the clearances required around moving or expanding parts.
• Mark alignment features and the datum used to inspect their position.
• Describe the working temperature, cycling and surrounding atmosphere.

For replacement parts, a photograph of wear or fracture can help explain the installation, but the quotation still needs agreed geometry and acceptance requirements.
