Custom alumina ceramic parts begin with the function of the component: electrical separation, positioning, a contact surface or support within an assembly. The drawing should distinguish the surfaces that control that function from features that only provide clearance.

Turn the component shape into a reviewable drawing

Show the complete outline, thicknesses, holes, recesses and mating faces. Identify the reference datums used for inspection. Where a part has several steps or thin sections, include a section view so the geometry is unambiguous.

Mark the dimensions that determine fit and assembly. State the finish needed on working faces separately from the rest of the part. A drawing-wide demand for the tightest tolerance can make the specification harder to evaluate without improving the features that matter.

Choose a grade for the service conditions

Provide the required alumina grade if it is already specified. Otherwise describe temperature, electrical duty, load, wear contact and any chemicals involved. Request the relevant material information before treating a nominal purity as a complete performance specification.
