“Semiconductor ceramic” often means a ceramic part used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. It does not necessarily mean that the ceramic is itself a semiconductor. Start an enquiry with the component’s location and its mechanical, electrical or process-facing role.

Map the installation position

State whether the part is inside a process chamber, at an interface or in an external support assembly. Describe exposure to heat, vacuum, chemicals or plasma only where applicable. Official CeramTec semiconductor application examples show why component selection is tied to particular equipment functions; they are not evidence that every ceramic grade suits every process.

Keep three specification groups visible

  • Geometry: locating faces, datums, holes, edge details and critical fit.
  • Material and surface: required grade, composition limits, finish and cleaning condition.
  • Acceptance: dimensional records and any particle, vacuum or process-specific tests.

Where a test is mandatory, include its method and limit. Terms such as “high purity” or “clean” leave too much room for interpretation without a measurable requirement.

Evaluate a change in a controlled way

When replacing a part, record the previous specification and the reason for the change. Confirm the proposed material and finish before evaluating the part in the equipment. Avoid changing several unrelated variables at once if the purpose is to understand a failure.
