To describe its behaviour, consider the polarization direction, electrode arrangement and applied field together. The outside shape alone does not tell you which displacement will be useful in an assembly.<\/p>\n<h2>Relate the electrodes to the required motion<\/h2>\n<p>For radially polarized tube actuators, electrode arrangements can produce axial, radial or bending motion. Segmented outer electrodes can be used to create bending when driven appropriately. These principles are illustrated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piceramic.com\/en\/expertise\/piezo-technology\/properties-piezo-actuators\/displacement-modes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PI Ceramic\u2019s displacement-mode guide<\/a>; they should not be treated as the specification of an unspecified tube.<\/p>\n<h2>Separate displacement from resonant operation<\/h2>\n<p>An enquiry for a positioning motion differs from one for operation near a mechanical resonance. State the intended motion, drive waveform and operating frequency range, and include the load and mounting arrangement. Ask which measured or calculated response is relevant to the intended assembled device.<\/p>\n<h2>Prepare the tube specification<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Outer and inner diameter, length and dimensional requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Polarization direction, electrode pattern and connection areas.<\/li>\n<li>Required displacement or vibration response under stated drive conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Temperature, mounting, load and any requested electrical tests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is technical background for discussing a requirement; it does not establish an available NORKE piezoelectric tube model or rating.
